This week's question is "What is that book you don't ever want to admit loving?"
Erm...I don't think I'm ashamed of anything I read really. Though I guess, I'm ashamed of the fact that I used to like Twilight. I read the first book about 5 years ago, and followed the series since then. After that horror of a 4th novel I realised just how poor the series really was, and how many decent books there were out there. Bella's character always niggled at me; but thr 4th book just sealed it's fate.
Despite that however, I'm glad that reading Twilight has encouraged so many people to get into reading, and to start reading Paranormal Romance etc books. I think it's great that more authors are now getting a chance with their books cause this genre is so popular; and that older authors are getting another look in. However, my absolute pet hate is Twilight-esque covers and "if you loved twilight, you'll love this" etc. ESPECIALLY on books that were out before twilight. Twilight is not the benchmark, people! It's one example. It makes me sad that people consider this series to be the epitome of YA literature.
I agree that it's sad how people compare everything to Twilight. They even compared The Hunger Games to Twilight. I was like, "Whaaaaat?". Like you said, the media seems to think that YA book=Twilight.
ReplyDeleteOld Follower just stopping by to say HI
ReplyDeleteTotally on the same page about Twilight. :-)
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday and thanks for following! Returning the follow now!
Have a fabulous, book-filled weekend!
Hey girl. I picked a Twilight book, too - New Moon. :) I wasn't a big fan of the first one, but those Indian legends in New Moon - I loved that.
ReplyDeleteHi, Cait. Thanks for stopping by. So far, I agree about Ink Exchange being the favorite. I just started Fragile Eternity and I'm having a slight issue getting into the story once again. It still isn't as hard as Wicked Lovely, but just not quite as enthralling as IE. Thanks for following. I am now following back. Have a great weekend!

Even though I am a fan of Twilight and especially Breaking Dawn, I do agree that Twilight isn't the epitome of YA nor was it the first. It does bug me that people think Vampire Diaries are a rip off of Twilight when it actually came out first.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely embarassed to admit my love of Twilight ;P

ReplyDeleteSorry had some misspelling in the last post. ^
ReplyDeleteBelieve it or not Twilight was what got me into reading.
New follower.
Maia I'm glad it got you into reading! That's my favourite thing about the twilight series, and one of the reasons I love HP too. I think it's great that one book or series can have such a profound effect on someone!
ReplyDeleteJenni-Elyse: Yeah I was mostly referring to Vampire Diaries =/ It'd been out like, almost a decade before twilight I think? And whilst they are very similar in a lot of ways, people should check facts before commenting on them in a negative way!
Marla I'm glad IE is your fave too!
Thanks for all the comments and follows everyone =] Hope you all had a great weekend!
