Follow Friday [14]

Hola and happy friday! I hope you've all had a great week =] Follow Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Rachel at Parajunkee.com and the question for this week is:

"What is the worst book you've ever read and actually finished?"

You know what? I thought this was gonna be a hard question...then I remembered:

Yep. Breaking Dawn is genuinely the worst book I ever finished. It's so bad, I refused to let my mum read it even though she liked the rest of the series. I'm very, very against book burning but I do not blame the people who burnt their copies of this appalling excuse for a novel.

---

I've been thinking about adding more content to my friday hops post, and have decided to go with something I included when I first started doing them, but dropped for some reason: Five Friday Fiction Favourites.

This week I'm going with: Five Friday Fiction Favourite.... Crushes.

1. Damon Salvatore from The Vampire Diaries This vamp will probably always be top of my list. He's just so...amoral. It's bizarre, I know, but I like that in a love interest. He's also sarcastic, and dangerous and dead and...yeah.

2. Bones from the Night Huntress novels. Bones is a new (but highly rated) addition to my crush list. I pretty much like him for all the reasons I like Damon, but he's got the added bonus of an english accent and Spike-esque feel to him.

3. Ash Redfern from the Nightworld series. Another LJ Smith character (I actually love a lot of them, she knows how to write excellent bad boys) this guy is mean and a liiiiiiittle bit of a dickhead. He's blonde, which isn't my type anymore, but his snarkiness and downright cute behaviour makes up for that. Ash is probably my oldest bookcrush, I've liked him since I first read these novels back when I was about 14.

4.  Adrian Ivashkov from the Vampire Academy series. Surprised? Most people seem to  choose Dimitri. But honestly, I much preferred Adrian. That careful carelessness holds great appeal for me, and his witty banter is endlessly entertaining. I can't wait to get an Adrian fix when Bloodlines comes out later this summer.

5. Eric Northman from The Sookie Stackhouse Mysteries. I debated this one long and hard. Eric held great appeal for me years ago, but as my tastes (and his character) have changed, he's not as attractive to me as he once was...but who to replace him with? Personally I think love interests in YA have lost their edge. They're all whiny, broody, carbon copies of each other recently. There's no diversity (or immorality) in their characters anymore-I'm sure you're all going to disagree with me on this, that's fine, it's my personal and very warped opinion.

It's no coincidence that every guy on my list is a vampire. Vampires have a special place in my heart, and they always will have. There's something about them that I will find endlessly appealing-despite many readers moans about the sheer volume of 'vamp lit' currently lounging around in bookshops. I might do a post one day about why the undead get my pulse racing, for now is not the time.

So what do you think of my list guys and dolls? Any you agree/disagree with? Feel free to share your own lists in the comments!!

  2. I can't believe I didn't think of Breaking Dawn when I read that question. You're right, without a doubt one of the worst books ever. I can't believe I finished it.

  3. Hmmmm.... I never got passed Twilight lol. I can't even imagine what kind of train wreck Breaking Dawn is!

Unfortunately, I have not read any of these series yet! I don't think I even have a fictional crush-- GASP!! OK, I have some reading to do... lol.

  4. @Alyssa, I can't believe I didn't think of it instantly! It took me a while..I've clearly repressed all knowledge of it.

@Lea I can't believe you don't have a fictional crush...how is that possible? and I commend you for not getting past twilight! My only excuse is I was 16 when I read it (now 21) and clearly had questionable tastes. Thanks for stopping by!

  5. I hatehatehate the Twilight series. Seriously. I have to say though, I thought this one was the best of them. Well, the first half of this one. Then it just kind of teetered off that edge with the rest of them. Good choice!

  6. Breaking Dawn was kinda bad. The only part I really enjoyed was the section from Jacob's POV. The rest just kind of pissed me off. I wasn't a fan of the first Twilight either. It was necessary to read the rest, but Bella and Edward bored me to tears and worked my last nerve. Old Follower.

  7. Hi! Old follower here. Thanks for stopping by my blog!

I haven't actually read Breaking Dawn. I gave up after Eclipse. I was actually talking to my friends about it today. They couldn't believe I hadn't read it and told me that I must read it soon. lol My least favorite book in the Twilight series is actually New Moon. Bella is so annoying in that book. Ugh, I couldn't stand her.

From your favorite crushes list... I love Damon and Eric! They're so sexy. XD

  8. Yay for Bones and Adrian! I was always more of a fan of Mr. Ivashkov than Mr. Belikov, truth be told. :-)

  9. I have to agree with you... maybe not the worst book I've ever read, but really... I think I only read it to finish the series.

Some of the characters are really pathetic and I'm not a fan of a pathetic character.

Love your blog! The black and grey is really eye catching.

  15. As bad as Breaking Dawn was it made me laugh.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Yeah, that one was pretty bad. I'm ashamed to admit to having read those books now. But there was just stuff about this one that was really bad. And not moral wise...just other things that I didn't enjoy.

    Here's my Friday Hops

    Have a GREAT weekend!!

  18. I chose Breaking Dawn as well, the book felt like it was thrown together. :(

Love you crush list, I personally love Bones (new crush as I just started reading this series) and Adrian I definitely loved more than Dmitri.

  19. YES! I almost chose this one for my post but I just didn't even want to think about it again, even to post it as the worst book I ever finished. I went with a funny story instead.

  20. I think among bloggers I know, you either LOVE LOVE LOVE ♥♥♥ the Twilight series or you want to stab Edward through the heart with a stake Buffy-style. I'm safely in the latter, I think, LOL!

    New follower! Happy Friday!

  21. Oh. My. GOSH. I agree!! I can't believe where S.M. took Breaking Dawn; it was so different from the other books, and it really sucked. I can't believe I finished it either. Great pick! :)

  23. LOL. A lot of Twilight fans hated Breaking Dawn. I actually didn't mind it. I thought it was a let down because of the no fighting thing, but I really enjoyed getting back to Edward/Bella being together without Jacob in the middle. I'm weird like that, though.

  24. I guess I am weird I thought Breaking Dawn was the best out of the series. I found it different for me. Hated Eclipse but had to read the last one.

  25. Love Eric from the Sookie books! Esp.now that he's played by Aleksander Skarskgard! *Sigh* And I concur, BD is the worst! Vair cute blog!

  28. This is the second time I've seen Breaking Dawn listed (and I haven't hopped to too many blogs yet - you know that pesky day job). I couldn't stand what I call the "tabloid pregnancy", but did like Jacob's chapter titles. It made me wonder if S. M. didn't have a 4th book really planned, so had to throw together something at the last minute.

  31. I can understand where you're coming from. I'm a fan of the Twilight Saga, but didn't enjoy Breaking Dawn as much as the others and I'm starting to question why I enjoyed them at all.

  32. Damon? Yum! Breaking Dawn was the worst book I never read. Yea, I just gave up after the third one. I would love to hear why vampires make your heart race. I hope you tell us.

  33. I totally agree about Breaking Dawn. Ugh, it was awful!

  34. I haven't read this book but I have read another title of hers. Sorry to see this book was so disappointing. I guess they all can't be good! Hi! Just stopping by. 35. I am really not a Twilight fan, the whole series could be added to my worst books! But I think New Moon was the worst, if I had to listen to one more whinging teenager...!

  36. Completely agree about Breaking Dawn. It is the only one star, flaming review I have ever written; I was so angry when I finished it. Just ah! Even thinking about it makes me mad. Anyway, you know I'm already a follower :). Have a great weekend!

  37. Sometimes I feel as if I'm the only one thinking it to be an interesting read and not too bad at all! I respect that people don't though. Not that I can understand why you'd keep people from reading it, even if they've liked the previous books and want to pick it up. People do have different tastes...

Happy Friday! My worst read can be found here.

  40. Hopping through. I didn't like Breaking Dawn at first, because it wasn't what I wanted. Over time, I got used to it and accepted it for what it was and even learned to really like it.
