So when I decided that I'd like to give an event of this sort a go, I was keen to a) involve bloggers and b) introduce people to lots of contemp books. A lot of the response I've had is along the lines of "I like contemps, but I don't read enough" or "I wish I read more of them!". With that in mind, I'm going to be presenting some blogger's favourite contemp reads, so all for all the bloggers out there like me who don't read enough of this genre have some new picks =]
Therefore today I'd like to introduce Ashelynn from Gypsy Book Reviews. Ashelynn has excellent taste and she writes fantastic and funny reviews, and today she's going to tell us about her favourite contemporary reads of 2012 (so far):
I love
contemporary novels. I don’t read a lot of them, but trust me: I freaking love
them. Some of my two favorite contemporary novels of all time are Kirsten
Hubbard’s, but since I read Like Mandarin in 2010 and Wanderlove in 2011, so I
really can’t talk about them being the best 2012 novels I’ve read even though I
WOULD SO RECOMMEND THEM RIGHT NOW.
Anyway!
The 2012
contemporary novels I did love? They are amazing. I really do recommend these
to those who don’t read contemporary a lot.
Reunited byHilary Weisman Graham: I didn’t think this book would good, but I ended up
reading it and fell head over heels in love with it. I want EVERYBODY to read
this amazing book!
AMidsummer’s Nightmare by Kody Keplinger: YO. Guys, Kody is the master of contemporary,
srsly. I love her novels. But A Midsummer’s Nightmare is one of her bests—and
my favorite of hers.
SomeoneElse’s Life by Katie Dale: I had my problems with this one, but I still think
about it at times—and I read it in February. And since I’ve read over eighty
novels since then, that’s a HUGE compliment to Katie. I loved how realistic
this contemporary novel was. Amazing.
Gone,Gone, Gone by Hannah Moskowitz: Now, this one didn’t blow me away like Hannah’s
other novels, but I’d still recommend this one to those who are just reading
Hannah. This one is happy. It has a happily ever after, unlike her other
contemps. So yes, if you love happy, read this one!
TheStatistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith: Are you
looking for a romance contemp? I SO recommend this one, then! Jennifer writes
in the same vein as Stephanie Perkins (I would also recommend her novels, too!
LOVE THEM!) and man alive, I just fell so HARD in love with this one!
TheCatastrophic History of You & Me by Jess Rothenberg: AWW! This one. Oh,
THIS one. It can be cheesy at times, but it fits SO WELL. This one can be dark
at times, but holy crap, I loved it. Loved loved loved this one. Especially the
ending. The ending was BRILLIANT.
Social Suicide by Gemma Halliday: This is the sequel to Deadly Cool, and I so freaking
recommend this series! I love it. Mystery a la Veronica Mars and Stephanie
Plum. And I luuuurved it! Hartley is hilarious and I think everybody needs to
meet her. Also, the best thing? You can read these books as standalones. You
don’t have to read Deadly Cool to understand Social Suicide. LOVE that so much!
So, the
next book I’m going to recommend isn’t a contemporary, but a historical
fiction, but it COULD be considered contemporary if it was published in the
1940s. You guys, Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein is the most amazing book
I’ve read of 2012. I still cry thinking about it, and cry in a good way. This
book broke my heart over and over again. I love everything about that novel.
