Memory Lane Monday II

Hey so it's Monday and time for my new meme! Memory Lane monday is where I post a picture of a book from when I was younger that I have fond memories of, or was significant for or really inspired me.

This week I'm posting:

We're going on a bear hunt is a story my parents used to read to me and my siblings. We got a story every night and I remember this being one of our favourites. The family in the book are, as the title suggests, going on a bear hunt. This book was great fun because it's got lyrical and repetitive prose. They start off saying "we're going on a bear hunt, we're going to catch a big one, it's a beautiful day, we're not scared" and then, they encounter a number of obstacles such as a river, tall grass, mud. Each time they say "we can't go over it, we can't go under it, we have to go through it" This is then followed by onomatopoeias appropriate to whatever it is they're going through (like squelch for mud). The repetition meant we could all get involved in telling the story, chanting out the lines with our parents.

Are there any books from your childhood that you remember your parents reading to you?

I'd really like it if you guys could take part in my meme too! Just nick the picture above (or any or picture you prefer) and link your post back to mine so others can get involved too! Don't forget to post me your link so I can check out your choices!
