April Wrap Up Post

Hello, hello. Another month has come and gone, and May will bring some super exciting releases (and hopefully some nice weather *looks pointedly at the gale currently massacaring my neighbour's trampolines, poor kids*)

So this month, I totally failed at challenges. I'm not even gonna mention them. Reading Challenges, what Reading Challenges? Huh? Who are you?

THEREFORE. This month I read 17 books. Which is actually my most so far!! Wahay! Well, until you consider the fact that 6 are re-reads. RE-READS. I can't be re-reading! I have 100+ unread books just hanging around!! I'm still undecided about whether these should count towards my Goodreads reading challenge or not...do you guys count re-reads? Without them, I'm a book behind. With them, I'm obviously ahead but it feels like cheating.....anyway, the books  I read were:

A Witch in Love by Ruth Warburton (4.5*)
Insurgent by Veronica Roth (5*)
Pure by Jennifer Armentrout
I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith (5*)
Onyx by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost (re-read)
One Foot in the Grave by Jeaniene Frost (re-read)
At Grave's End by Jeaniene Frost (re-read)
Destined for an Early Grave by Jeaniene Frost (re-read)
This Side of the Grave by Jeaniene Frost (re-read)
One Grave at a Time by Jeaniene Frost (re-read)
Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy by Ally Carter (4*)
Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire (4*)
Don't Judge a Girl By Her Cover  by Ally Carter (4*)
Only the Good Spy Young by Ally Carter (4*)
Out of Sight, Out of Time by Ally Carter (4*)
Heist Society by Ally Carter (4*)

The break down is:
Adult:6 (re-reads, sigh)
Undecided: 2 (I Capture the Castle and Beautiful Disaster...what are they??)
YA:  9
Review: 2

As you can see, there's lots of Ally Carter love there. I'm really sad I've read them all now, but I cannot wait for Uncommon Criminals to be released here later in the year! I also had a very indulgent month, reading very few review titles.

Books received this month (that I hadn't previously shown you):

Bought:
Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire (for kindle, not pictured)
Read it, REALLY good. Don't usually link books but here it is this is one of the only self-pubbed books I've really enjoyed and I definitely recommend you checking it out!
Gallagher Girls 2, 3 and 5 by Ally Carter
<3 them, all I have to say.
The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides
my favourite book ever, friend never returned my copy so I've bought a new one :P

For review:
Timepiece by Myra McEntire (from Netalley, not pictured)
Ahhhhh!! also, KALEB POV, KALEB POV, KALEB POV. *is quiet*
Shooting Stars by Allison Rushby
Excited for this one, Allison also sent me a copy to give away, thanks!!

Gift:
Gallagher Girls 4 from Liz
Ta babe ;)

Library:
Heist Society by Ally Carter
Went to the library for the first time in months just for this book...loved it
How I Live Now by Meg Rosoff
Read it when it first came out and loved it, think we're due a re-read
What I Was by Meg Rosoff
Sounded good
Dreaming of Amelia by Jaclyn Moriarty
I loved her books as a young teen! Apparently they all have different names but I know them as: Feeling Sorry for Celia, Finding Cassie Crazy and Being Bindy McKenzie. This one I thought was a completely separate novel, but it's actually the 4th in this series! I'm super excited as I didn't even know it existed. I gave my copies of this series away to a school, but you should READ THEM. They're a bit old now, but still really good.

What I plan to read in May:
Well, the three library books I haven't read yet!!
City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare
(Sebastian <3)
In Honor by Jessi Kirby
(counting down the days until this one)
Then hopefully tackle my review pile!! They're all for June and beyond, but I can get some reviews written up ready to go!

How did you do? On track in your challenges? If you've read ICtC and BD, do you class them as Adult or YA (personally, I'm leaning towards New Adult for BD)  do you count re-reads in your GR challenge?? Have you read Jaclyn Moriarty's books? If so, did you LOVE them? What're you looking forward to reading in May?

  6. Wow you read so many books!! I think re-reads count because you are still taking time to read the books. I am dying to read City of Lost Souls. Everything gets dropped to read that. Also Insurgent!! Only a few more days!!

  7. Oh dear, you remind me of my Gallagher girls series which are sitting nicely on my shelves. I NEED TO READ THEM SOON!!! And Shooting Stars sounds really good! And TIMEPIECE. I might just need to request that off NetGalley! Kaleb's POV!! (Although I'm sort of Team Michael :P)

  8. 17 books?!!! Good grief! I've only done that once. :( Well done!

We read I Capture the Castle for book club and we had a whole discussion about what genre this was. I think had it been published today it would be YA romance. As it is we just called it a classic. ;)

  9. I count re-reads because you are still reading the book! I don't see why you shouldn't count them.

I *really* like this wrap up type of post! I don't know how many books I read this month, but I know it's less than usual because I'm like barely one book ahead of my goodreads challenge and I'm usually ten or so books ahead. BUT NO WORRIES! summer vacation is coming up and I'm going to read all the time.

Shooting Stars was really cute and a very quick read. hope you enjoy it, and all the other books you got! (Timepiece WAS SO GOOD! I devoured it.)

  10. Holy cow! You read 17 books. That is freaking awesome. I'm such a slow reader that I could never accomplish such a feat! I know I'll definitely be dropping everything for Insurgent. So excited!

  11. Well hello there, MONTH OF WIN! You totally owned April. I don't even want to think of the pitiful number of books I've read (and reviewed) this month *hangs head*

Psh. I'd totally count rereads in my GR challenge. It's still a BOOK that you're READING, right? Ain't nobody gonna tell me I can't be a cheat and use it :P

Everyone seems to be in LOVE with this Kaleb guy. I feel so ashamed that I've had Hourglass sitting in my shelves since it's freaking release *bangs head against laptop* Ahhh I need to finish GG series already! I have Heist Society and Uncommon Criminals too. Need. More. Time.

Anywho, I hope May is just as FANTASTIC!

  12. You had an awesome month & I'm actually really jealous that you took the time to re-read the Cat & Bones books. I LOVE BONES!!!!!!!!!!! I might have to indulge in a re-read of those soon :o) I always count re-reads towards my goodreads challenge totals - it's still a book you've read this year after all!
